Who are we ?

The Fondation Cathédrale Notre Dame.be is a public utility foundation in search of private aid, on the basis of tax deductibility for citizens and companies alike.

The Foundation also has the role of enhancing the archaeological site, of promoting studies, research, conferences, seminars and other scientific, cultural and artistic activities in relation to the Cathedral.

On 14 August 1999, a violent tornado struck the City of TOURNAI, causing major damage to many buildings, including the Notre Dame Cathedral. This event has brought to light the significant imbalance that was being suffered by the structure of the building, and particularly by one of the towers, the Brunin Tower. Very quickly, between 2000 and 2002, provisional work was undertaken not only to safeguard and strut the Gothic choir but also to reinforce the buttresses and to stabilise the tower.

The building's restoration project and the reclamation of its concealed treasures are proving to be long and hard. Faced with the extent of the work to be carried out and the funds to be mobilised, the Province of Hainault has taken the initiative of creating the Fondation Cathédrale Notre Dame.be.
